One of my staple pieces this summer is definitely the maxi dress. I don't like putting too much effort or thought into dressing, especially when its 100 degrees outside. Maxi dresses are effortlessly chic and stylish - perfect for lazy girls like me. I buy the majority of my clothes at Forever 21, and this season they have a great selection of maxi dresses at affordable prices.
1. Ikat Maxi Dress, $14.50 (Just purchased this, orange-y red and coral are the hottest colors this season!)
2. Eden Maxi Dress, $24.80 (Just purchased this too. I love florals.)
3. Floral Maxi Dress, $16.50
4. Island Vacation Maxi Dress, $15.50
5. Strapless Knit Maxi Dress, $13.50 (The perfect "go-to" maxi, best with piled on accessories or none at all)
6. Surplice Maxi Dress, $12.00 (Currently on sale from $19.80!)
I'm so happy I had a gift card, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought both dresses at the same time. Being in college is the best time to figure out who you are, and develop your own style. Luckily, most college students don't bat an eye when someone wears something over the top or an outfit that doesn't match or looks a little out of the ordinary. However, you shouldn't have to spend tons of money on your wardrobe! Great pieces can be found at all price points.
My Tips for Buying Maxis:
1. Look at the fabric, polyester can feel scratchy and a bit cheap, but can also create that gauzy chiffon look that's so popular right now. Rayon is an extremely soft and good quality fabric to invest in. (The two dresses I bought are both 100% rayon!)
2. Try a few on first to see which shape/silhouette suits your body shape. Personally, I don't look good in spaghetti strap dresses and prefer strapless or halter tops. Look in large mirrors and ask for friend's opinions!
3. Imagine yourself wearing it. Can you think of at least five different ways to style the item, or imagine yourself pulling it out of your closet again and again? If yes, then buy it. :)
