Gyaru Fashion

Gyaru is a trend that I've become pretty obsessed with in the past couple of months. Gyaru is a Japanese style that involves big, voluminous hair (usually curled), large, doll-like eyes, and killer fashion sense. Some people criticize Gyaru style for being too excessive, too "made up," and also an excuse for Japanese girls to become more white/Caucasian. Being Taiwanese, a lot of my close friends are Asian and dye their natural dark brown or black hair to light browns, reds, and blondes. Dyeing hair has become such an integral part of teenage/young Asian fashion and beauty trends - it doesn't mean we're trying to be white!

Here are some pictures of the Gyaru trend: (click any image to enlarge)

I don't particularly like heavy makeup on me personally, but I think these girls rock the look. It's cute, feminine, and really puts the focus on the eyes and hair. I like the "lighter" Gyaru styles more, such as the ones in ViVi Magazine.

Less focus on the makeup, more on the clothes. I dig it!

You don't need to have light blonde or brown hair to rock the Gyaru look either, many Gyaru (also called "Gals") have dark brown or black hair, and dress accordingly with less pinks in their wardrobe.

What do you think of this trend?
